Well, today we had another check up at the doctor's office. We actually heard our "Nuggets" heartbeat for the first time. It was unbelievable. Our next appointment is scheduled for thursday February 2nd. That is when we find out if we are having a baby girl or boy. Start your bets now!!!! We just hope that "Nugget" cooperates that day.
Many people in the family say that it is going to be girl. A few say...maybe a boy. We just hope and pray for a healthy baby regardless of its sex, although I believe that Jay would beg to differ. He really wants a boy but I know he would be over joyed just the same if we had a baby girl. I guess we will all find out soon!!!!
This Christmas was a very busy one. We spent time with lots of friends and family and as a result, much traveling was involved. We had a wonderful brunch with Dad (David) and Zina in Hillsborough, followed by dinner and gifts at Jason and Mandy's house (Missy's brother and SIL). The food was great but the company was better. All the kids were very excited about their gifts and could not wait until they got a visit from Old Saint Nick.
We spent Christmas morning together at home with our little family. Missy wasn't as excited about waking up early as I was and I had to drag her out of bed. I think I made up for it though with the gifts :). All of our pets received a stocking filled with goodies which kept them occupied while we exchanged gifts. After picking up all the piles of paper/ribbons/bows, we went to Missy's Grandparents' house for Christmas dinner. It never fails, Missy's grandma always has me say grace, there is green beans with mushrooms (Missy's favorite) and granddaddy cracking jokes.
"Nugget" received his/her first gifts this year. Dad and Zina are determined to make him/her a Carolina Tarheel so they bought a Tarheel Rubber Duckie. Now I also have to say that Missy and her mom are Duke fans and so you can imagine how well-received that was...points for DAD!!!! We received a couple bibs and "onesies" which brought tears to both of our eyes. It made this pregnancy even more real for the both of us.
Well the Tryptophan set in and we all went our separate ways with plans for the New Year. We feel very blessed to be able spend this time with some of our family but wish we could have spent it with all. We hope to see everyone soon and wish you all a happy new year!
Well, this past wednesday was our 13th week. Everything is going fine, seems the sickness and generally icky feeling is starting to go away. Missy is still getting small waves of nausea but nothing like she had just a couple of weeks ago. Our next appointment on the 29th. This is just for more tests, our next ultrasound is at around 20 weeks. We should be able to know the sex of the baby around that time frame so it is an exciting point in this journey.
We just got back from a Christmas party for Missy's co-workers. When we got home, we took some photos of Missy and I in front of the Christmas tree. It came out really well and so we loaded it into the photo gallery. I have installed a module into the photo gallery that will allow a person to have copies of the photos mailed to them in all of the common photo sizes. Simply click the link "Print on Shutterfly.com" on the left side of the gallery... and VI-OLA'. Here is a link directly to the Christmas photo.
Today is our 12 week mark and the end of the first trimester. This means the end of the nausea and all-around icky feeling according to all of the books, other parents, and even a few people that know nothing about pregnancy. Not personally experiencing the morning sickness, I cannot say for certain, but Missy seems to not have had it as bad as some other people we know. The waves of nausea came and went but nothing like some of the horror stories I have heard.
Missy has started to show, and she looks just as beautiful as ever. I worry about her due to the size I was when I was born. I don't see how a 12lb-9oz thing can fit in there (Mom, I am sorry...). I believe missy was only around 8 or 9 pounds when she was born so hopefully the baby will take after Missy in that respect.
Missy had a check-up a couple of weeks ago. It was just to do some tests and bloodwork, everything came back good-to-go. Our next ultrasound should be somewhere around the 18-20 week mark, in which time we should be able to determine the sex. That has been a question that many people have been asking. We are going to find out if it is a boy. I continue to tell everyone that if it is a girl, I am taking it to Walmart (since they don't require a receipt)...just kidding. In all seriousness though, I will be happy with either.
Well, until next time...
